
STEPHANIE MANRÍQUEZ is an award-winning writer, radio producer, journalist, and teaching artist with a passion for highlighting social justice issues affecting Latino communities. She sees storytelling as a radical act for the Latinx and vulnerable communities and has committed herself to develop spaces for diverse voices to be heard. She is Executive Director of Contratiempo and Director of Lumpen Radio. She was named as one of 11 “Leaders for a New Chicago” in 2020 by the Field and MacArthur Foundations; in 2023, she received the “Public Humanities Award” from the Illinois Humanities; and in 2024, she was recognized with the 3Arts Teaching Arts Award from 3Arts and the Reva and David Logan Foundation.
CONTRATIEMPO is a literary organization that highlights the cultural contributions of the Spanish-speaking diaspora. Their programs showcase the art, literature, and journalism of immigrant communities and facilitates exchanges between poets and writers in the USA and Latin America. Their all-immigrant team leads the organization, creating, curating and executing all programs presented on the page, digital publications, the airwaves, and the stage. These include: Revista Contratiempo, a quarterly flagship publication; Contratiempo Digital, their online content; Contratiempo Radio on Lumpen Radio; and ongoing creative hybrid writing workshops, lectures and reading.
