MALKIA STAMPLEY was born and raised in Milwaukee, where she attended Marquette University for Theater Arts. She joined Goodman Theatre as BOLD Artistic Producer October 2021 after serving as founding Artistic Producer for the Milwaukee Black Theater Festival for two seasons.
As an emerging director, Malkia enjoys collaboration; bridging the gap across arts genres, and using theater as the vehicle for healing, change, building community, and championing underrepresented voices from writers, designers, staff, and performers.
As a producer, Malkia prides herself on being the artist’s biggest cheerleader and collaborating partner, providing spaces that inspire, challenge, and celebrate the artists and centers the story. Her experience with grassroots, commercial projects, pre-Broadway runs, and traditional regional productions – her experience across all levels in the field – makes her a trusted partner, committed to excellence.
Directing credits include: Boulevard of Bold Dreams (Timeline Theatre); Stew (Shattered Globe Theatre); Shakesfest: A Community Cabaret (Chicago Shakespeare, Night Out in the Parks); Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill (Farmer’s Alley Theatre); The Gift of the Magi (American Players Theatre); Black Nativity (Black Arts MKE, three years); Stew (Milwaukee Chamber Theatre); Nunsense (Milwaukee Repertory Theater); Five Guys Named Moe (Skylight Music Theatre); Antarctica, WI (First Stage); In:fluence/spiration (University of Wisconsin-Madison) with workshops and readings at American Players Theatre, Northern Sky, Milwaukee Fringe Festival, #ENOUGH, and Texas State University Black and Latino Playwright Celebration. As a budding playwright, Malkia co-authored Lines, commissioned by Theatre LILA in 2018. Malkia is a co-founder of Milwaukee Black Theater Festival and Bronzeville Arts Ensemble, a theater established in Milwaukee, where she served as Producing Artistic Director for three seasons.
Malkia is also an actor for TV/film and stage, having worked at Milwaukee Rep, First Stage, Cincinnati Playhouse, Congo Square, Forward Theatre, Milwaukee Chamber, St. Louis Black Rep and many others. Learn more at malkiastampley.wixsite.com/malkiastampley.
