JAMES LAPINE is a leading American theatrical director, librettist, playwright, and filmmaker. Among Lapine’s most notable works is Sunday in the Park with George, created in collaboration with Stephen Sondheim. It won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Lapine and Sondheim collaborated again on the Tony Award-winning Into the Woods and Passion. He collaborated with William Finn on March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, which were later presented on Broadway as Falsettos (Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score), as well as the musical A New Brain. In 2011, he was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame and he is also the recipient of the Peabody Award and an Emmy nomination for his documentary Six by Sondheim.
