What a night! On the evening of Monday, September 30, Senior Artistic Consultant – and former Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director – Charles Newell was presented with the Special Award at the 2024 Equity Jeff Awards, “recognizing [his] extraordinary [career] and impact on Chicago theater.” Charlie received this award alongside the former Executive Director of Goodman Theatre, Roche Schulfer.

Check out his acceptance remarks (featuring some Court regulars!) and join us in celebrating Charlie, his legacy, his tremendous body of work, and the exciting things that lie ahead.

Speaking of exciting projects ahead, Charlie will return to Court’s stage in 2025 to direct the world premiere of Berlin, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Jason Lutes and adapted by Mickle Maher. Join us and experience his singular creative vision firsthand.
