An Epic Poem, an Epic Collaboration

Join us on Sunday, June 22, for a deep-dive into An Iliad, one of the most celebrated productions in Court’s history. Presented by the University of Chicago Graham School, Basic Program Instructor Kendall Sharp will lead a conversation with Charles Newell, director of An Iliad and former Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director of Court Theatre. The two will explore the play, the production, and Homer’s poem itself.
A timely and gripping retelling of Homer’s epic poem, An Iliad illuminates the human cost of conflict with breathtaking urgency. Praised as “one of the most remarkable performances of the theatrical year…a masterpiece of acting” by the Chicago Tribune and “a beautiful tour de force” by the Chicago Reader, Timothy Edward Kane reprises his role as The Poet – the sole character in this one-person saga – who recounts a tale of war, hubris, and destruction that spirals across millennia and crashes into our present day.
Enhance your experience of both the production and the conversation, and register for the Graham School Course, Homer’s Iliad Before “An Iliad,” running online from April 22 through June 3. As an added bonus, Court patrons who are new to the Graham school save 20% on registration with the code COURTILIAD!
