Culture and Region as Told through Props: ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD

Court’s Properties Manager Lara Musard explains the significance of coins in our production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, and how they help contextualize the play.

Whereas plays typically take us to another place, this one keeps us right here in the spiritual realm of Court Theatre. If the region is thus, then the culture of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is the insatiable theatrical spirit. Which always asks the question – have I yet to become my most divine, artistic self? Flipping a coin as a resolution for external and internal disputes alike dates back to the 7th century, so if you’re stuck in this artistic journey, as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are, summon your spirit guides to communicate an answer to you. But be advised, brave traveler – you should not decide based on the chance coin itself, but instead by observing your feelings about the outcome…whether you are, or are not, dead.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead runs from March 29 – April 21, 2024. Tickets are available online or by calling the Box Office at (773) 753-4472.
